MANCHESTER
Manchester is located in the North West of
England. It is a wonderful, cosmopolitan, modern
city with a very important history. Over the
past 10 years Manchester has undergone a
remarkable redevelopment programme. Across the
city, beautiful historic buildings now stand
alongside fantastic modern architecture.
With a university student population of over
70,000, the city is a dynamic and exciting place
to live. The city centre contains a
huge number of shops – from high street stores
to trendy designer boutiques. There is also a
thriving culture scene and Manchester is home to
some of the country’s best art galleries and
museums. The award winning Manchester Art
Gallery and The Lowry to name but two.
To cater for its youthful population, it also
has a great number of cafes, bars, restaurants,
live music venues, pubs and nightclubs to choose
from.
Finally, the city is of course home to
Manchester United, arguably the biggest football
club in the world and Manchester City, now
confirmed as the richest! In addition, the north
west is home to a further five premier league
clubs – all within easy reach.
Further afield, famous and important
cities such as Liverpool and Chester are a short
train journey away.
The north west also has some of the most
beautiful countryside in the country. The Lake
District, The Peak District and The Pennines
National Parks are all spectacular and fantastic
days out. Although Manchester is in the north of
England, it is only about two and a half hours
away by train making it possible for a daytrip
or weekend visit.
